Oamaru Self Storage Ltd (“we”, “us”, “our”) operates oamaruselfstorage.co.nz and the self-storage facility at 2a Foyle Street, Oamaru. We are family owned and operated, and we have been storing our neighbours’ gear since 2015.

This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, and what we do with it. We handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 2020.

What we collect

When you enquire. If you contact us through our website, by phone, by email, or through a Facebook or Instagram enquiry form, we collect your name, email address, phone number, and whatever you tell us about what you are looking to store.

When you rent a unit. To set up a storage agreement we collect your name, contact details, address, proof of identity, vehicle or item details where relevant, and your payment details.

While you are on site. Our facility is gated and monitored by CCTV cameras for the security of your belongings and everyone else’s. If you visit the site, you will be recorded.

When you pay us. Payment details are handled through our banking and storage management systems. We do not store your full card details ourselves.

Why we collect it

We collect this information so we can:

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use it to advertise anything other than our own storage services.

Who we share it with

We share personal information only where we need to:

Facebook and Instagram enquiry forms

If you complete an enquiry form on one of our Facebook or Instagram ads, Meta passes us the details you submitted so we can respond to you. Meta’s own handling of your information is covered by Meta’s privacy policy, not ours. Once we receive your enquiry we handle it under this policy — we use it to contact you about storage, and nothing else.

CCTV

Our CCTV cameras record continuously for the security of the facility. Footage is held for around two months and is then overwritten automatically. We access footage only when there is a reason to — an incident, a security concern, damage, or a request from the Police. Cameras cover the site and access areas. We do not place cameras inside your unit.

Our website and advertising

Our website uses a Meta pixel — a small piece of code from Facebook. When you visit our site it tells Meta that a visit happened. We use this to see whether our Facebook and Instagram ads are working, and to show our ads to people who have already looked at our site.

You can control how Meta uses this in your Facebook or Instagram ad settings, and most browsers let you block this kind of tracking if you prefer.

We do not use your website visit for anything other than advertising our own storage services.

How long we keep your information

We keep your information for as long as you are a customer, and afterwards for as long as we need it to meet our legal and tax record-keeping obligations. Enquiries that do not lead to a storage agreement are kept for a reasonable period and then removed.

Keeping it safe

We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from loss, misuse, and unauthorised access. Customer records are held in access-controlled systems. Only people who need access to run the business have it.

Your rights

Under the Privacy Act 2020 you have the right to:

Contact us and we will help. There is no charge for a request, and we will respond as soon as we reasonably can and within 20 working days.
